The City of Garland has taken another step toward the redevelopment of 519 W. State St. – one of the earliest business properties on the Downtown Square. Last October, City Council approved a purchase contract, and on Thursday, Feb. 8, the City officially closed on this key property. Redevelopment plans include a mixed-use community space with dining and entertainment opportunities. Conceptual renderings show a rooftop patio and outdoor seating but are subject to change. Stay tuned for future updates on additional development progress.
“The redevelopment of 519 W. State St. has been a longstanding dream for the City of Garland, and excitement continues to build with each step that moves us forward. This site has so much potential – increased quality of life for residents, economic development, and that’s just the beginning. We’re shining a spotlight on Garland, showing that this is THE best city to live, work and play,” said Mayor Scott LeMay.
Established in 1899, the H.W. Jones Hardware & Furniture Company occupied some portion of the property on the north side of the Downtown Square for nearly a century. Now vacant, the site will be the City’s latest revitalization as it turns Downtown Garland into a destination for one-of-a-kind dining, shopping, recreation and entertainment experiences.
