All Day EventBookmark Design Contest for kids

Calling all artists! Do your children like to draw? Show off their talent by entering them in the Nicholson Memorial Library System’s bookmark design contest for kids. The contest begins April 1 and is open to children in kindergarten through eighth grade. The contest theme is “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!”. All designs should incorporate this sports-related theme.

Beginning April 1, print a copy of the template and rules or stop by the Children’s Desk at any Garland library to pick up bookmark templates and rules sheets. All entries are due by April 30 and winners will be announced during Children’s Book Week on May 7.

Copies of each first place bookmark will be made available at all Garland library locations beginning Saturday, June 4. For more information or a complete set of rules, please contact your neighborhood library, or call 972-205-2516.

Your children and their plush pals are invited to Stuffed Animal Sleepover at the Library. Stuffed Animal Sleepover gives kids a chance to experience stories and crafts in the company of their favorite stuffed friend. Library staff encourage attendees to leave their stuffed animal at the library overnight for additional fun. Each remaining animal will be photographed enjoying the library. Parents may collect the animals two days after the event.

Animal Pick Up: 1 to 9 p.m., Thursday, May 5

All Stuffed Animal Sleepover events are free and open to children 18 months to 8 years of age and their caregivers. Parents should select a stuffed animal that is not essential to their child’s daily routine. Library staff will email the photos to each stuffed animal’s owner. One stuffed animal per child please. 2:30 PMArt Explorer's May: Dali’s Melting Clocks at the Walnut Creek Branch Library

Children can learn about surrealist art and make replicas of Salvador Dali’s melting clocks at Art Explorers, a monthly program for children ages 6 through 12. Children attending Art Explorers learn about different types of art, then use their new skills to create their own masterpieces.

Registration is required to attend each Art Explorer program and is limited to 24 participants. Registration may be completed by phone or in person at the Walnut Creek Branch Library beginning April 23. All supplies are provided by the library.
