2:30 PMArt Explorers September: Dot Art at the Walnut Creek Branch Library

At Art Explorers, a monthly program for children ages 6 through 12, children learn about different types of art, then use their new skills to create their own masterpieces. At the September event, participants will discover the art of Wassily Kandinsky then use circles and squares to create their own versions of Kandinsky’s Squares with Concentric Circles painting.

2:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Walnut Creek Branch Library

Registration is required to attend each Art Explorer program and is limited to 24 participants. Registration may be completed by phone or in person at the Walnut Creek Branch Library beginning Saturday, Aug. 22. All supplies are provided by the library. Thursday, Sept. 10, beginning immediately after the 6 p.m. annual membership meeting and lasting until 8:30 p.m. at the South Garland Branch Library

Admission to the book sale is free. Membership forms are available at all Garland library locations during open hours, and at www.nmls.lib.tx.us. To locate the printable form online, click on Library Portal, then Friends of the Library, and finally, click on Membership Form. Those who plan to apply on the day of the annual membership meeting are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes early to allow time for the process.

The purpose of the Library Board is to advise the City Council on problems relating to the Public Library and to recommend plans and programs to promote the library system for the city. The Board approves library policies, long range plans, and other pertinent documents as they are recommended by Claire Bausch, Director of Libraries.

Monday, February 9, 6 p.m. at the Central Library

They meet monthly on second Mondays at 6 p.m. in the Library’s Board room. All meetings are open to the public unless the Board goes into executive session. Meeting agendas and approved minutes are posted on the library website www.nmls.lib.tx.us for citizen review.

The Friends of the Library meet bi-monthly on the third Monday of the month, 5 p.m. at the Central Library. Anyone interested in the activities of the Friends is welcome to attend. For more information visit the Friends of the Library page call 972-205-2543.

Friends of the Nicholson Memorial Library is a community organization supporting and promoting the Library. The Friends sponsors activities to raise funds for the purchase of library materials and equipment, and underwrites programming to benefit all library users.

Experience some of the magic of American song legend Patsy Cline as the Nicholson Memorial Library System presents tribute artist Sherrill Douglas in “Crazy ‘Bout Patsy.” A singer and performer for most of her life, Sherrill Douglas is known as the “Voice of Many Faces”

2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Central Library

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, Senior Social Hour programs are free and open to anyone 55 years of age and older. Donations of gently used books and media for the Friends of the Library book sale are accepted during the program. No registration is required to attend the event, but seats do fill up quickly. 2:00 PMBooks and Beyond September: Outer Space at the Central Library

Books and Beyond, a program for children ages 6 through 12, consists of book discussions and activities related to monthly themes. Children use their imaginations to explore those themes and complete activities, all while socializing with others their age and having fun. At the September program, attendees will learn about astronauts and outer space, then make constellation necklaces, taste astronaut food, and create paper rockets.

2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Central Library

No registration is required to attend this free event. Children must be ages 6 through 12 to attend. The Central Library is located at 625 Austin St., in Downtown Garland.
