Housing and Community Services

The City of Garland's Housing and Community Services Department is responsible for revitalizing neighborhoods by providing safe and affordable housing for low to moderate income households, providing funding to create or maintain a supportive social environment, and expanding economic opportunities to residents of Garland.

Housing and Community Services activities are primarily funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Home Investment Partnership (HOME) and the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) programs administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Public Notices

Prior to receiving the yearly funding allocations, the City actively seeks input through a number of different avenues including a series of neighborhood meetings, a citizen survey and meetings with stakeholder groups.  The input provides guidance to City Council as they allocate funding to the various activities. 

Federal Grant Public Meetings:

The City of Garland Housing and Community Services Department will host a public input meeting to gather information necessary for the upcoming 2017-18 Federal Grant Programs. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, during the Regular Council Meeting.

2017-18 Federal Grants Process 

The City of Garland will begin the 2017/2018 Federal Grant Process on March 8, 2017.  The CDBG Public Service application will be available for download on March 8, 2017.   All entities applying for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Partnership Grant (HOME) and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) programs are required to attend ONE Technical Assistance Meeting listed below.
