The Patrol Division operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is the largest and most visible unit within the Police Department. The Patrol Division is responsible for the bulk of 911 and non-emergency calls (GPD responds to approximately 170,000 calls per year). This Division employs officers that show up in the middle of the night or day when someone calls 911.
The Patrol Division dedicates its personnel and material resources to maintaining public order and safeguarding the individual and constitutional rights of all persons.
Patrol operations are divided into two 12-hour shifts and one 10-hour shift. The city is divided into two geographic areas (North and South) with Miller Road as the dividing line and has 4 police sectors. Each part of Garland is manned by patrol officers who are distributed over the three shifts based on calls for service and provide professional service 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to the citizens of Garland.
