Applicants for the position of Police Recruit must meet the following criteria:
An associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university (C average or better).
At least two years of active duty in the United States military with an honorable discharge, plus a high school diploma or GED.
At least two years of service as a full-time paid peace officer (reserve peace officer status will not be considered when determining an applicant's satisfaction of the two-year prior service requirement), plus a high school diploma or GED.
At least two years of continuous work experience for a local, state or federal government employer, or at least two years of experience as an emergency first-responder.
If an applicant is age 18 to 20, they may apply if they have an associate's degree; or 60 semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university (from a TCLEOSE approved accrediting agency), or has received an honorable discharge from the armed forces of the United States after at least two years of active service, plus a high school diploma or GED.
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must not have ever used a felony level illicit drug such as:
No felony convictions
No marijuana use in the last 12 months
Not currently under indictment for any criminal offense
Not ever have been convicted of any family violence offense
Not ever have been convicted of an offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years
Not ever have been on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order
